NEW MOON IN CAPRICORN: NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS, CALMNESS & GROUNDING

Happy New Moon in Capricorn! This New Moon becomes exact on Wednesday, January 13 at midnight New York time (05:00 GMT).

We have reached the first New Moon of 2021 as Father Sun and Mother Moon meet in 23 degrees of Capricorn. Capricorn, known as 'The Goat' is the quintessential realist of the Zodiac. Capricorn breaks through all the airy B.S. and forces us to face reality head-on. It asks us to set realistic goals and boundaries and to look at our current reality realistically.

Hopefully you've taken stock of where you're at in life as we've turned the calendar from 2020 to 2021; and hopefully you've made a list of goals/intentions for this sacred year that we have just begun. My suggestion is to make a list of goals and categorize them (e.g. career, health, relationships, finances, hobbies, spiritual development). Keep them posted in your room or office and reference them throughout the year.

I hear comments on every New and Full Moon that my journal prompts are very helpful, so here are some things to journal on to get you in touch with the most realistic view of the landscape of your life. From a place of groundedness, it is much easier to make forward progress through instituting new strategies and making courageous choices.

  • - Do I feel like my current living environment is supporting my Highest Evolution?

  • - If not, then what needs to change? Do I need to clean or reorganize? Do I need to relocate?

  • Do I feel like my current job or career is supporting my highest possible evolution? If not, then what might be the highest possible resolution to my career path? If it's not logical to leave my current occupation at this time, then how can I plan to make a transition to a new career in the future? What steps can I get started with now?

  • What is my current financial situation, from a realistic and grounded standpoint? What steps do I need to take to improve my finances (e.g. saving more, reducing costs, attracting a higher-paying position, investing)?

  • If I lost my job due to the pandemic: what if the Universe were attempting to reroute me toward my true path of Service work? Is there an inclination somewhere inside me as to what my dharma (or mission) might be?

  • Do I feel like my mind is supporting my highest possible health and highest possible evolution overall? If not, then which chronic thought patterns might be holding me back?

  • What would be some healthier, more supportive thought patterns that I could replace these with?

  • Do I have a tendency to create unnecessary drama in my life? If so, then why? Does a part of me feel like there is something to gain through drama?

  • - Which interpersonal relationships of mine need work (e.g. partner, family, friends, business)? How would these relationships ideally look and feel? What steps could I take to improve these relationships?

  • - Do I feel like the people I spend the most time talking to are supporting my highest evolution? If not, then how might I put myself into a position where I can attract supportive people into my life?

  • - What baggage am I currently carrying that has gotten too heavy for me to carry any longer?

  • - What changes do I feel like my Higher Self or Soul is asking for me to make over the next year?

  • - Do I feel like my daily habits are currently supporting my highest possible health and highest possible evolution overall? If not, which supportive habits might I be able to add to my daily repertoire that would put me back on my Highest Possible Path?

  • - What is my body asking of me? Better nutrition? More exercise? More sleep? Better sleep? Less stress? More deep breathing? Fasting? Cleansing? All of the above?

  • - What kind of plan could I put together TODAY to give my body just what it needs to heal, grow and flourish over the next year (and beyond), regardless of what is going on in the outside world right now?

THIS NEW MOON INVITES YOU TO COMMIT TO NEW, SUPPORTIVE RITUALS

Aristotle didn't actually say “You are what you repeatedly do,” but irregardless of the fact that this famous quote has been misattributed, it is still a wonderful piece of wisdom! If you want to make longlasting changes in your life, it requires repetition.

Here's why: the subconscious mind actually manifests 95% of your reality. This part of your mind is formed pretty much completely between the ages of 0 and 7, when our brains are predominately in a Theta wave state. The thoughts and beliefs of our parents, caregivers, and even the media end up forming the template of our subconscious mind.

If we don't do the healing work, this subconscious mind will continue to manifest the same sorts of problems and frustrations for us over and over again. Only 5% of our thoughts come from the input of the conscious mind, so that's why making lasting change in your life requires a lot of deliberate repetition.

During Capricorn season, it is natural to become more aware of which sorts of activities and addictions that have become a normal part of your life are slowing you down and holding you back. Once you've identified those daily activities that aren't supporting your highest evolution, the next step is to of course figure out which new rituals you can implement that will allow you to shift those hardened subconscious patterns that control 95% of your life.

One of the overlooked principles of co-creation is that a small input can create a large output. Meaning, it only takes a few minutes per day of a new supportive ritual in order to make a significant change in your life. Just a few minutes of meditation per day, for example, can cause a wonderful improvement to your health and well-being.

Here are some ideas for supportive daily rituals:

  • Meditating/visualizing first thing in the morning prior to checking your phone

  • Setting daily morning intentions

  • Drawing a daily tarot or oracle card

  • Daily exercise

  • Dry brushing

  • Rebounding

  • Grounding exercises

  • Yoga or tai chi

  • Gratitude journal

  • Journaling your thoughts before bed

  • A daily artistic practice (e.g. drawing or creative writing)

OVERCOMING OBSTACLES BY ACCESSING THE SPIRITUAL WARRIOR WITHIN

Capricorn brings a very masculine energy ('the Father' energy) with it, which is exactly what we need to establish balance following the very feminine nature of the Full Moon in Cancer a fortnight ago.

The Spiritual Warrior is an archetype that we all carry within. We have all had moments of courage in this lifetime; and in other lifetimes, we have all played characters who were extremely courageous in certain moments of those specific incarnations. Your soul has played a character that saved someone else's life; your soul has also possibly even played a character that sacrificed his or her life to save someone else. Your soul has played characters who took huge risks in life that paid off handsomely. Your soul has played characters that overcame incredible obstacles to achieve amazing things or to garner some invaluable wisdom.

The essence of the Spiritual Warrior is within you. Whatever obstacles are present in your reality right now are there for you either to overcome, or to surrender to and gain invaluable wisdom from. Regardless of what is meant to happen, it is the Spiritual Warrior within that will be the part of you that will figure out exactly what you're meant to figure out.

Here are some questions to ask yourself or journal on to help you anchor in this wisdom: - If I had to guess, what is life asking for me to learn from my current obstacles? Which virtues am I learning from my current difficulties? - How am I being shaped and formed into a new person through these difficulties? - How might the new person I am being molded into be actually more readily able to accept and maintain an even better life than I am living now? - Is it possible that my current difficulties are teaching me wisdom that I may be able to teach others now or in the future? - How can I start teaching others what I have already learned, if I am not doing so already? (This can happen in little ways, like reminding someone to love themselves.)

MARS SQUARES SATURN

Fiery, masculine, aggressive Mars forms a difficult square with restrictive, karma-oriented Saturn (ruler of Capricorn). We may become aware of any way in which our voice or will is being restricted—whether this is an actual restriction that is occurring or a perceived one. Ask yourself if there are parts of you that feel unnecessarily or unjustly restricted by others or the outside world?

Sometimes, there's not a whole lot that we can do about our current circumstances or the outside world but we do have control and influence over our inner world. This difficult aspect in the sky (under the Capricorn sun) may allow us the opportunity to become aware of father wounds held within.

Your relationship with your father when you were growing up will generally relate to how you relate with authority in general (including your own self-authority). Here are some interesting journaling questions to help you contemplate your relationship to authority:

  • In what ways do I feel held down or held back in my life?

  • Which people in my life make me feel I can express myself freely or act as my most authentic self; and which people in my life make me feel like I can't express myself freely or act as my most authentic self?

  • Do I feel like I am truly the authority in my own life?

  • How am I giving away my power? What or who am I giving my power away to? Am I afraid of my own sovereignty and power?

  • What is my idea of freedom and how does that get expressed in my own life?

CHIRON SQUARES VENUS

Chiron the 'Wounded Healer', which is connected to childhood (and past-life) wounds, is in masculime, firey Aries, squaring feminine, expressive Venus in Capricorn. We may find ourselves getting triggered easily, especially if someone says something to us that makes us feel like we are 'wrong', 'less than' or judged in any way. Remember to take a deep breath and go within when feeling triggered. It truly is always about what is going on in the inner world; the perceived outside source of the trigger often isn't the same as the inner source of the trigger, which could be a deep childhood or past-life wound.

We may feel these deep wounds from past lives, childhood, and previous romantic relationships coming up at this time to be felt. Feel the wounds, journal on them, cry them out, and allow the energy to be released from you. Inner wounds—and the emotions stored within these wounds--need to be acknowledged before they can be truly released. Close your eyes, feel the feelings deep within, and visualize them leaving your vessel. Imagine sending forgiveness to yourself and to others. Allow yourself to become free of these old wounds, so you can step up into a higher, lighter vibration.

MOON CONJUNCTS PLUTO: KEEPING A CALM AND STEADY MIND

This New Moon conjuncts Pluto. Pluto is the outermost planet(?) in our solar system but it has a strong impact astrologically. Pluto, the ruler of Scorpio, is the planet of death and rebirth, power, crises, deep transformation, the Shadow Self, difficult truths, and the occult. It has been on a journey through Capricorn since 2008; by late November 2024—when it has exited Capricorn—it will have likely been responsible for having truly broken down the financial and political structures of the world, leading us into a completely new paradigm once it enters Aquarius.

Pluto can cause divisiveness and extremism, which is why the weeks ahead are an astrologically precarious time for potentially more bizarre world events—like what we saw happen at the U.S. Capitol last week--to occur. What's most important in my opinion is that we continue to keep our minds calm and to pray for and visualize peace, love and abundance for all.

Many clients and friends of mine lately have been expressing a lot of fear about what's coming up in the outside world in 2021. Personally, although I do see a lot more weirdness occurring in 2021, I'm confident that the 'worst-case scenarios' that many in the spiritual communities are fearing shall not come to pass. Underneath the energies of division and frustration that may continue to cloud the collective energy of this year, there will be a blossoming of unity, love, compassion and understanding around the planet.

As a collective, we can see Capricorn season as giving us the opportunity to collectively choose our destiny. It's important that we continue to have open dialogues with one one other about the trajectories of our nations and our planet. Really, at the root of it, nearly all humans want to be safe, to have clean food, water and air, and to have the opportunity to be at peace and be happy; and although in every nation there will be differing political ideologies, I do believe there's always unity to be found even in the face of what appears to be obvious division. Remember that it is the energy of unity that will carry us forward as a human race into this sacred Ascension; the division—which is largely by design—is often a distraction.

We have a choice in our day-to-day lives whether to focus on and look for opportunities to become more unified with others rather than divided. And as Pluto also rules the inner world and Shadow Work—we likewise have the opportunity to create unity within ourselves rather than pushing away the Shadow aspects of self that are crying out for attention, acceptance and love.

Practically speaking, for most Lightworkers the greatest and most aligned way for us to effect positive change on the collective right now is to consciously visualize and speak peace into The Field/The Grid. Smile at your neighbors and to those in public. Ground yourself daily and work on/work with your root chakra (Capricorn is earth). Become an example of someone who is grounded and at peace.

A daily deep breathing exercise is crucial at this time.

Wishing you a wonderful and powerful New Moon in Capricorn.

With Love,

Matthew John
